ABOUT THE JOB
The Studio Operations Manager is a central management position in the organization, working closely with the Director of Programs, key staff throughout the organization, and a talented staff to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of Penland’s sixteen studios and to sync these operations with all program offerings. The position is responsible for internal communication, long-term planning, budget development and oversight, technical problem solving, and inspiring leadership. The Studio Operations Manager reports to the director of programs and manages a team of 9 full-time studio coordinators and as many as 20 studio assistants each summer session. This is a full-time, benefits eligible, exempt position.
WHAT’S NEXT
● Bachelor’s degree required with at least 3 years of management experience with a nonprofit organization, college or university; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
● An inspiring leader who can effectively guide staff in collaborative problem solving; identify strengths within the studio coordinator team and direct them to optimum effect; identify and harness resources inside and outside the organization in support of the studios; successfully prioritize and organize long-term planning and projects
● A resourceful, creative problem-solver who is able to work on multiple projects, adjust quickly to shifting priorities, meet deadlines, exercise good judgement, and make clear decisions in the moment
● In-depth technical knowledge of the equipment, tools, materials, and processes used in Penland’s studios and the ability to assess and at times perform basic equipment maintenance and repairs; general knowledge of and curiosity about the field of crafts
● Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, high attention to detail; the ability to see both the forest and the trees is essential
● Financial planning, budget development and oversight, and project management experience required
● Emotional maturity, integrity, enthusiasm; dependable and adaptable to changing needs of the studios and staff; ability to deal sensitively and confidentially with instructors and students
● Propensity and commitment to serve as a strong, collaborative, and effective member of the programs team; high energy, sense of humor, and a willingness to jump in with both feet

● Functional ease with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word
