The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs maintenance tasks related to facilities maintenance and assists with school operations and special event needs as requested. The position is full-time (40 hours per week), benefits eligible, non-exempt hourly position and reports to the Facilities Manager.
Experience in general facility maintenance and general equipment repair preferred. Must be self-motivated, have the ability to manage a varied workload and be able to assess needs, set priorities and solve problems. Must be able to function as part of a team. Institutional knowledge is useful.
Considerable knowledge of standard practices in facilities maintenance is preferred in addition to general knowledge of building trades, i.e., carpentry, mechanical, electrical, drywall, roofing, and painting. Must possess knowledge of hand tool and power machinery skills. Knowledge of safe operation procedures for equipment. Should have a Class C water distribution certification or be able to attend school and pass C distribution test within one year. North Carolina Pyrotechnic Assistant license or ability to obtain within one year preferred. Must have a demonstrated ability to organize and to schedule preventive and routine maintenance tasks. Good written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are required. Must have a valid driver’s license.
